Adding voice commentary and discussion to slide presentations

So what is it then?

Voicethread is a free web application that allows for commentary and joint discussion around a slide presentation.  It’s like using Powerpoint but with a lot of exciting added extras

And how do I use it?

This presentation was created by Michelle Pacansky-Brock, an art teacher, and she explains a number of ways that she can use Voicethread to encourage her students to learn by sharing.  Click on the arrow at the centre of the presentation and listen to what she has to say.  Then click on each icon to see what other people have added to the discussion.  There are further slides which you can explore by clicking on the thumbnail pictures at the bottom righthandside.

Why not have a go?

I have subscribed to an educators licence for Eduvoicethread where up to 100 students can particpate in a safe environment.  I would love to make some presentations with teachers and classes during the summer term.  How about using it it for “Speaking and Listening” activities in English, for language practice in MFL or with small groups of students in ESL activities?  A treat for after the exams perhaps?
